Walmart updates mobile app with store assistant

RBR Staff Writer Published 12 February 2018

Retail-giant Walmart is updating its mobile app with new features in order to streamline the in-store shopping experience.

All upgrades will be available via a feature called Store Assistant, which will be activated when customers enter one of its 4,700 locations.

The idea is to make an easy way to build shopping lists, calculate costs and locate items.

The Store Assistant will make it easier and faster for users to make shopping fast and easy such as Walmart Pay which is claimed to be at the user’s finger tips.

The product search bar and the scanner is also claimed to have been made easier to find products.

By adding just keywords, users can find the appropriate products in the store. Once selected, the list will show quickly calculate the cost as well as the tax for the product.

As the user adds more and more products, the Store Assistant will calculate the total items in the list, along with the total cost and the applicable tax.

Walmart services and digital acceleration senior vice president Daniel Eckert said: “Smartphones have become a vital part of our lives, helping to make virtually everything faster and more convenient. No matter what we’re doing these days, relying on our favorite apps is almost second nature.

“That’s why we’ve been applying this kind of thinking to shopping, by building tools and features within the Walmart app to save you time on everything from prescription pickups to merchandise returns. But we also know that we can do even more.

“This week, we’re releasing a handful of new and improved features to the Walmart app that not only help you get in and out of the store quickly, but also help you before you ever leave the house.”
